FDA approved Laser reverses Gum DiseasePeriolase MVP-7 Laser

Do you suffer from red, swollen and tender gums that occasionally bleed when brushed or flossed? Has your dentist told you that you are suffering from periodontal disease or gum disease? Were you told you had "pockets" that were 4 mm or more between your teeth? Did your dentist refer you to a periodontal specialist? If you answered yes to any of the questions above you are not alone.  Like millions of other Americans you may have gum (periodontal) disease.  This infection of the gums and teeth if left untreated can cause loss of bone, gums and teeth.  It has also been linked with heart attack, stroke,  low birth weight babies, difficulty controlling diabetes as well as many other health problems.  Fortunately  we have a treatment option in our practice that can repair the damage and stop the infection- Laser Periodontal Therapy (LANAP)

Dr Gardner is proud to offer the PerioLase Laser. Similar to what LASIK did for eye problems, this patented and FDA cleared laser therapy allows him to treat periodontal patients with a minimally invasive breakthrough procedure.  If you're like millions of other Americans, you could be one of more than 75% of Americans who have periodontal disease, the major cause of tooth loss in adults.  Until now, gum disease often meant surgery and sutures. But today, our office offers LANAP™ Laser Gum Therapy. You can feel confident knowing Dr Gardner provides world-class technology and care.

What is Laser Gum Therapy?

• It's an advanced technique for your doctor to treat periodontal (gum) disease and save many teeth that were previously considered hopeless.
• A laser light is used to gently remove harmful bacteria and diseased tissue from the gum pockets while leaving behind the healthy tissue to reattach to your teeth.
• This allows the body to heal naturally so that the gum pockets improve and the teeth become more stable.

Why is Laser Assisted New Attachment Procedure better for the treatment of gum disease?

• The PerioLase® MVP-7 laser now gives us a gentle and effective way to stop the damage being done by the infections in the gums.
• LANAP™ is easy- there’s no cutting and no suturing.
• It takes less time than traditional surgery. It could take as little as one treatment visit to our office and two follow up visits. Traditional surgery could require up to four sessions of about one hour each, with subsequent visits for suture removal and additional check-ups.
• Most Patients who have had this form of laser treatment often report that they have little or no discomfort after the procedure.
• LANAP™ gives comparable and in some cases better results than traditional surgery.
• There's less than 24 hour recovery period, so you won't lose time from work.
• Following traditional surgery, recovery can take between to 2-4 weeks during which patients can experience considerable pain and swelling, where they may be restricted to liquid or soft diets.
• LANAP™ is safe for patients with health concerns such as diabetes, HIV, hemophilia, or those taking medications such as Plavix or aspirin.
• Patients with advanced periodontal disease who take Bisphosphonates medication such as Fosamax can delay or avoid having extractions because even teeth with a poor prognosis can benefit from this life-changing procedure.
• We are proud to be among the first of the growing number of dental offices in the country to provide this breakthrough laser treatment to our patients.

Patient Benefits

• Dramatically less traumatic, yet highly effective alternative to cut and sew gum surgery.
• No cutting of the gum tissue with scalpel and no stitches means easy recovery with minimal bleeding.
• Preserves gum tissue instead of cutting it away.
• Reduces root exposure and sensitivity.
• Reduces infection.
• Reasonable expense.

The LANAP™ Process can be summarized down into seven simple steps.

1. A periodontal probe identifies excessive pocket depths.
2. The initial pass with the laser removes bacteria and diseased tissue.
3. Special ultrasonic instruments remove root surface tartar that was loosened by the initial laser pass.
4. A second pass of the laser causes blood clot stimulation in the pocket to keep the epithelium from growing back into those areas.
5. Reattachment of soft tissue and bone to the clean root surfaces is initiated.
6. The patient’s bite is adjusted to eliminate bite trauma.
7. New connective tissue attachment and bone growth occur.
